Adara loved winter more than any other season, for when the world was cold, the Ice Dragon would come. Ice dragons were a rarity, even in those days, and when one was sighted the children would still point in wonder, and the adults would mutter and shake their heads, for when snow dragons appear around it is a harbinger of a long, bitter winter.
When the Ice Dragon flaps its wings, the cold wind blows, the violent swirls of snow whirl, and the world seems to shrink and shudder. However, Adara, a child of Winter, is her only friend, and together they must save the ones they love when fire dragons attack their home, but only if they are willing to pay the price.
In this story by the American writer George R.R. Martin we see the seeds of ideas which he later developed in the huge work which he then presented to the Mature. Here, the author of “A Song of Ice and Fire” presents a simple story, but full of charm and beauty of his writing and poetic language, encouraging young and old readers to enter the world of imagination through one of the best writers in it.
