Jo's Children follows the lives of Marsh's daughters, along with Jo's sons - and daughters - who grow up at her school, although some find themselves on a path quite far from that of antiquated Limfield.
Like the previous part - Little Men - the writer depicts the lives of her heroes ten years later, and the young men and women have become young men and women trying to pave their paths and get to know the world each in their own way, but they still need Mother Bayer's care and advice to remain on the right path, and to succeed in passing the tests that shower them with. Life, and their confidence in the existence of a safe haven that they resort to in all distress.
Mrs. Jo Baer realized that her test, too, had not been easy, now that her children had grown up as she called them. She, like them, needs to be patient, wise, and discerning in order to be able to present the correct opinion to them, as she knew very well the size of the responsibility that rests upon her shoulders, and she realized that she would not have succeeded in this difficult task had it not been for the faith of her husband and family in her and her message.
