The importance that a civilized person attaches to peoples who are called backward is what raises the most suspicion. Unable to bear himself any more, he vents to those peoples for the surplus of diseases that assail him, invites them to suffer his tragedies, and appeals to them to face a fate that he can no longer underestimate on his own. He has taken her so far that he is lucky not to "rise", until he feels the wrath of an unbalanced bettor. By what right do these peoples remain alone, outside the course of degeneration from which they have been suffering since ancient times, without any possibility of escape? Civilization, his work and his madness, seem to him like a punishment he has imposed on himself and which he, in turn, is willing to inflict on all who have survived until now.
