Wealthy executives know this, who have rigged it up by buying resorts and safe havens in New Zealand. Politicians also teach it, who in turn prepare for it by turning countries into war machines ready to act. Scientists either shout the danger of the coming environmental disaster, or seize the opportunity to conduct reckless genetic experiments. And the animal kingdom recedes back in a terrifying and suspicious silence.
The thesis of this book is that we may not have reached rock bottom yet, but on the brink of something worse. Our chance of survival may be very small, but there is still a possibility that our descendants will survive the consequences of capitalism, if only we set before our eyes a realistic picture of the nature of the coming nightmare.
