In this part of Howl's world, Diana Wynne Jones is inspired by the atmosphere of the Thousand and One Nights, creating for us the character of Abdullah, the rug merchant who spends his boring time in daydreams full of movement, colors, smells and good luck! Although this part was published four years after the release of Howl's Castle, we move with it through time, just as Abdullah moves on his magic carpet, to live in the magical world of nights, jinns and "blue" goblins, and the wishes that the genie achieves after any effort!
The author does not forget what she started in the first part of her talk about failure. Abdullah is a believer, as much as Sophie believed, in his misfortune, so he resorts to daydreaming, filling it with everything he could not get his hand in real life.
The title suggests dreams that don't come true because they lack a solid foundation, like a castle suspended in the air. But Abdullah's dreams took him far, far away, and he suddenly moved from the world of the desert to the atmosphere of Angry Land Howl.
On this journey, Abdullah changes, just as Sophie changed before him, striving relentlessly to make his daydreams a reality full of movement, colours, smells and good luck!
Every journey becomes a step towards happiness, and every dream turns into a stone that builds an edifice. Who said dreams don't build castles?!
