It is one of the best-selling novels in the Arab world since its publication in 1993. It deals with an unusual love story between Khaled, an Algerian painter, and the daughter of Si El Taher, one of the great martyrs of the revolution who was his companion and leader in the war of liberation. After introducing her as a child, Khaled, who lost a hand during the war and became a painter, returns to live in France, and meets the daughter of Si El-Taher, a girl and writer.
He sees in her the embodiment of all the meanings he longs for, as she is the daughter, the mother, the beloved, and the homeland. The impossible love story they live in becomes more complicated after the appearance of Ziad, the Palestinian fedayeen poet. These three destinies intersect at their dramatic climax with the stories of the post-revolution Algerian: the war rich and the old revolutionaries who invested its conclusions and benefited from its results to occupy positions.
A text imbued with nostalgia and nostalgia, it won the Naguib Mahfouz Award for the year 1997.
